Tools You Will Need
Before taking measurements, always use a rigid metal tape measure rather than a flexible fabric dressmaker's tape. Fabric tapes stretch over long distances, introducing 1 to 2 inches of error.
- Metal retractable tape measure (at least 5 meters / 16 feet)
- Step ladder to reach ceiling or rod brackets safely

Step 1: Measuring Track or Rod Width
Rule #1: Always measure the width of the curtain track or pole, NOT the window glass frame.
If your curtain rod is already installed, measure the pole from end to end (excluding decorative finials on either end).
